Course Description
This course is for active members of recognized Search and Rescue (SAR) Groups in British Columbia who hold a Rope Rescue Technician Level 1 (RRT1) certificate. The application form must be signed by the Training Officer or member of the Management Team of your SAR Group.
This course provides the formal certification evaluation for Rope Rescue Technician Level 2 (RRT2). Candidates must arrive prepared to demonstrate competency in advanced rope rescue systems and team-based rescue operations.
This course follows the Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) established curriculum. Focused competencies are as outlined in the Provincial Operating Guidelines (POGs) 3.02a BC SAR Wildland Rope Rescue Competency Matrix, SAR Rope Principles and Guidelines.
The evaluation focuses on practical application of advanced rope rescue techniques used in wildland SAR environments. Through scenario-based assessments and system testing, candidates will demonstrate their ability to construct, operate, and troubleshoot complex rope rescue systems while working effectively within a coordinated rescue team.

- advanced lowering and raising systems
- high directional systems and edge transitions
- advanced litter rigging and patient handling
- rope rescue system troubleshooting
- team-based rescue coordination
- scenario-based rescue operations
With two instructors delivering the evaluation, candidates benefit from thorough observation of rescue systems, team dynamics, and individual performance, supporting a fair and comprehensive certification assessment.

RRT2 Assessment Expectations:
- Candidates should arrive prepared to demonstrate and complete the following skills and maneuvers to a high standard.
- Demonstrate proficiency in rappelling and ascending
- Stretcher handling Techniques - Demonstrate high angle stretcher handling techniques
- Pick-off Techniques - Participate in pick-off rescue techniques
- Edge Person Role (in pick-off or stretcher environment during scenario)
- Act as Control
- Demonstrate the Knot Pass
- OVERALL COMPETENCY - Participate in Rope Rescue as a team member
