A discounted AST1 course for members of the Vancouver Island Section of the Alpine Club of Canada.

The Avalanche Skills Training One is an introductory avalanche course designed for individuals with little to no avalanche related experience. Students will learn to recognize avalanche terrain, gain the skills to initiate and manage a self rescue, have a basic understanding of how weather contributes to avalanche hazard, be able to understand and interpret avalanche bulletins and the hazard scale, be able to interpret and utilize the Avaluator card and learn basic analysis of layers in the snowpack.

Add-ons

  • Avi kit rental $20.00

    Transceiver, shovel and probe. Available as a package only. If you are bringing your own avi kit, this must include a modern, digital, 3-antenna transceiver, otherwise you will need to rent a kit from us to take part.

  • Lift ticket $26.00

    2-ride ticket. If your trip is taking part at an operational ski hill, and you do not have a season pass or a ticket of your own, you must purchase a 2-ride ticket from us to take part.
